Edema of the dermis is commonly seen in acute contact dermatitis particularly a plant contact but it is also a feature of Sweets syndrome, erythema multiforme and acute polymorphous light eruption.It is due to the accumulation of interstitial fluid.A pale dermis can also be due to mucin in between the collagen strands.
