Differential DiagnosisHistory: This lady presents with a 3 month history of partial loss of her right eyebrow. There was a suggestion of thickening of the eyebrow skin but no inflammation. DD Trichotillomania, follicular mucinosis.
Description: Follicular mucin (Alcian blue stain)
Comments: Sections show a biopsy of skin in which there is a mild accumulation of lymphocytes around hair follicles. In addition the Alcian blue stain shows accumulation of mucin within follicular epithelium. The changes present are those of follicular mucinosis.
